Rainy Days and Mondays

That’s how this week started out - a rainy Monday. But we hounds don’t let that get us down. After all, there are three big baskets of toys inside, and Mom made sure she brought all of the toys in from the back yard before it started raining so they wouldn’t get wet, so all three baskets were full.

The fun started in the game room upstairs. It’s a big room that Mom uses as a sewing room, but when she’s not sewing, everything gets pushed up against the walls so we can use it as a play room.

The first thing I did was check the toy baskets to see which toys Mom had brought upstairs.

Searching through one of the toy baskets

Finding lots of fun toys, I hauled them out one at a time and played with them by myself, since everyone else was downstairs.

One of the things I found was the end of a rawhide bone, so I had to do the Dance of Joy to the rawhide gods.

I also had some fun with the rope bone.

Best of all, I found my favorite toy in the bottom of one of the baskets!

But playing by myself gets boring after awhile, even if I have so many toys. So I went to the stairs to see if anyone wanted to come up and play with me.

No one came right away, so I rolled around and made it sound like everybody was missing out on a whole lot of fun.

Finally, Cooper came upstairs. So I grabbed my favorite toy and tried to interest him in a game of tug-of-war by swinging it at him.

He didn’t seem too sure about wanting to play at first, but then I guess he realized that no one can resist my favorite toy, and the games were on!

After playing tug-of-war for a while, we decided to play a game of tag.

For a dog who’s going to be eleven years old in just a couple of months, Cooper is a lot of fun to play with! And then, to add to the fun, Jack appeared.

But after awhile, my youth won out, and Cooper and Jack went back downstairs to rest, leaving me alone with the toys.

In the comments to my January 3 post, my doggy daddy, Fox, requested that I tear up some toys “for your old man.” Being the dutiful and ever-obedient son that I am, I decided to do just that.

For some reason, Mom didn’t take any pictures of the aftermath of the destruction - probably because she was so busy picking up the little clumps of fluffly, white gorilla guts that I threw all over the game room. Oh well - be it known that poor Baby Blue Screaming Gorilla has screamed his last and has now been consigned to the Great Gorilla Graveyard. Still, it seems to me that since Mom went to all the trouble to pick up all the fluffy guts, she could just put them back in and sew up Baby Blue - after all, this is her sewing room. But, alas, she seems to think we have enough toys that reviving dead ones just isn’t worth it.

After taking a brief moment to mourn Baby Blue, I decided to go downstairs to see what toys were in the basket there.

The first toy I decided to play with was the Long Green Snake.

I played with the snake for a while, and then found a couple of rawhides and a Screaming Monkey and played with them while BJ chewed on one of the super-squeaky stuffed bones from inside the pumpkin toy.

I still haven’t gotten BJ to play with me, but I figured I’d try again by stealing her toy.

It didn’t work. She just watched me walk away with the toy. *SIGH*

By then it was getting pretty late in the day and I’d been busy playing for a long time, so I laid down with Peaches and gnawed on one of the rawhides.

Eventually I got tired of chewing on the rawhide, so I took it and climbed up onto the love seat to survey the lovely, toy-strewn landscape of the family room created by our day inside.

I think BJ was worried Mom was going to get upset with our redecorating. And then Cooper showed up.

He looked a bit worried, too. I told them both not to worry about it - Mom would understand that it had been raining all day so the only place we could play was inside.

Apparently he thought I was right, because he joined me on the love seat for a nap.

Glad to see the rainy day didn’t get you down. Your extended pack spent the day bringing in clumps of mud and spreading them throughout the house, including some up 4 feet high on the *walls*. Beat that, Fluffy Tail :-)
